Complaints That Led To The Issue About Ashford Settlement

By Joanna Walsh

Settling financial matters in court has never been an easy endeavor. There are a lot of issues that have to be tackled and series of investigations that has to be conducted. Both sides that are involved in a case has to provide detailed account of anything that will help them settle the matter during a trial.

There are a lot of corporate issues that can be related to this. Some of them has dragged on for years, milking a significant amount of money to those parties involved. What happened in the Ashford settlement is one of the most recent example of this. In this issue however, the school decided to just end the matter at once rather than continue dragging their name to trial.

The settlement of the money that Ashford agreed to pay for the complainants is an amount of 7.25 million U. S. Dollars. This in response to the issues thrown at them that has something to do with their misleading recruiters who encourage interested persons to enroll on online courses. For the school, paying the amount is better than dragging the name of their institution to more unwanted spotlight.

One of the complainants said that he though he will be able to get a license to teach after enrolling on the course. After all, it was how it sounded at first. It is easy to believe this idea given that the one who is running it is a well known institution. Sadly, it turned out to be an unworthy investment.

As it turned out, the fact is the contrary. There are still additional things and courses that they will have to make in order to be licensed. Needless to say, this meant additional expense for them as well. Those who realized this after spending money for the course complained that the school did not inform them of such an issue.

At first the complains were minor and were not taken into serious consideration. But as the number of clients filed formal complaints, the more people get interested. Eventually, it garnered national attention. With some students not finishing their studies and some being burdened debts, the case formed was strong enough to get Ashfords attention.

The school responded in a way that focused on the central message that their institution has been fostering for years. Meaning, student commitment. They say that it will continue to do just that. The settlement was never meant to agree or admit to any complaints filed but rather to settle the case at peace in order to prevent more negative publicity for the school.

The 7.25 million that they pay will be given back to the students. A contacting mechanism will be done in order to get in touch with other students who have not filed a report but is considered a valid recipient for the refund. Those who are enrolled at present will be communicated properly as well.

There might still be ongoing issues about the settlement. But given the arrangements that has been made, the case is expected to be totally resolved soon. If you are among the possible recipients for the refund, take to know if there are some necessary documents that you need to submit in order to avai of it.
