What Are The Catholic Views On Marriage?

By Mark Gibson

With different religions having different views on marriage, the Catholics see marriage as a gift from God himself. The ministers in church give a lot of teachings to the congregation on the topic of marriage, some of the elements focused on include, marriage is a way of bringing a man and woman together in faithfulness and love, gives the couple a right to bear children and give life, acts as a response to the Gods calling of faithfulness and holiness and shows the love of Jesus Christ. The article will explain more on how catholic views marriage.

Marriage is viewed as sacrament. Reason being it has its roots from the saving mystery of Christ. It is through marriage that love grows and children born. This love gives holiness and external life. Family love cannot be if a marriage never happened, it manifests how God loves us.

There is a purpose and meaning attached to marriage in the catholic beliefs. It gives birth to a family. The family members are said to form the domestic church. It is the very basic unit where love, faithfulness, forgiveness, sacrifice, care, hospitality and faithfulness starts. If we learn to observe all these in our families then it will be easy extending the same to the world around us.

Sexuality is another important part of marriage. Catholics teach human sexuality as sacred. In a marriage its main purpose is to express deep love and faithfulness open to a new life. Sexuality according to the church should involve, a lot of openness and complete self-giving. It is a mystery that comes straight form the mind and heart of God, it should be kept sacred and respected by all.

A spiritual meaning is given to marriage by the Catholics. They do not see only the physical part of making a family. A marriage shows the love of Christ to people, it is a very strong way of teaching Christians how they should reach to others in love. Through their actions and how they treat each other, a couple witnesses gospel values to the world.

A family should pray according to the Catholics. They believe that it is a way of keeping the family together. When we pray we involve God in all what we do. Prayers can be made in a variety of ways, prayers made with the scripture, recited prayers like hail mother of Jesus, perfect prayers and spontaneous prayers like the ones a family make before going to bed.

After engagement the next step is planning a wedding. A number of couples do that by themselves today. Getting married in a catholic church is considered a very wise decision for partners who are Catholics or if one is a member of the catholic fraternity. More is got than just photos and avenue. Couples are advised to be very prayerful and thoughtful in planning.

To say that a catholic wedding is valid, the following must be observed, the man and woman should be free to marry, should exchange consent freely, staying in the marriage forever should be their intention and it should be done in front of two witnesses and a church minister.
