An Overview Of Statistics For Lawyers

By Linda Ruiz

One of the most practical fields of math is none other than the field of statistics as it can be able to measure a lot of things in many different professions. It is a branch of math that is especially important in the field of law as many of those who are in the field of law will be able to use it. Just to give people an idea of how this is used in this profession, here is an overview on statistics for lawyers.

Now not only the lawyers would make use of statistics but even the judges, the prosecutors, and everyone who is in the field. Now this is often used when it comes to the documentation of evidence because this would need hard facts. Now in order to produce real facts, one would often have to do statistical processes in order for the answers to come out.

Now one of the first lessons that one would study would be the categories of data. Now in this lesson, the students will be learning the different types of data and the different types of statistical treatment to give to those data types. Of course they are further sub categorized into data with a single variable, one with two variables and a lot more kinds of data that one will be learning while during the lesson.

Now other than that, one will also be learning one of the most important lessons which is probability. Now this is extremely important because when one would study law, he would need to be able to properly know how to treat information about people. Now one would have to translate these figures into interpretations.

Now some of the things that one will be studying here would be random sampling other methods that can be used. Now one will also be learning basic probability concepts like the conditional ones and the others. Now one of the methods that would really be emphasized would be Bayes rule.

Now another topic that one would be learning would actually be inferential statistics. Now this type would have lessons that are related to point estimation or hypothesis testing. Now hypothesis testing is indeed a very important topic in law simply because this would be able to produce figures that cannot seem to be solved.

Now one would also learn how to regress two variables namely the independent variable and the dependent variable in order to see the relationship of two concepts. Now there would be the linear regression to connect an independent variable and a dependent one. There would also be the multiple regression which would link an independent one to more than one dependent variables.

So as one can see, one will be learning quite a lot while he would be taking up statistics. Of course while the students would be learning their lessons, they will also be utilizing case studies in order to learn more about how to apply them in legal cases. By making use of cases, students will be able to apply statistical theories.
