The Freedom of Information Act is in place in the state of Massachusetts. This law allows the residents to request for a copy of any of their public documents anytime. Such document includes the Massachusetts marriage record which is considered as open documents that can the people can request anytime.

The marriage records of Massachusetts are used in a number of ways. The document is an important requirement when dealing with some government transactions. It is used as proof of one's identity and status which is very important in transactions such as insurance, beneficiaries and dependent as well as any other financial related matter. There are also individuals who look into the status of their partners to make sure that they are with an unmarried individual. Sadly when the marriage is no longer working and the couple decides to separate, this document is one of the needed documents that should be presented to process the divorce.

The document focuses on the details of the marriage. One would know when and where the couple had their marriage registered. The names of the couple's parents are indicated on the file along with the names of the witnesses. The document would be incomplete without the full names of the bride and the groom.

When requesting for a copy of a marriage certificate in the state of Massachusetts, one has to know the basic details of the record being requested. The request form should contain the basic information of the record such as the complete names of the bride and the groom, date and the place where the marriage was registered. One is also required to indicate their contact details on the form since it will be used to verify one's relationship with the person on the file. The sate only allows the couple and their families to request for the certificate.

Marriage records in Massachusetts can be requested at the state's Department of Health under the Vital Records Section. It can be requested in person at the office and it would cost $18 per request. Sending a mail request can also be possible but it cost even higher at $28 per copy. However, sending the request via mail would take time and usually it can take up to 14 business days if there are no problems during the search process. Thus, it is important to provide all the required information on the mail request to help speed up the process.

The Internet has changed the way information is being shared. With it, retrieval of a marriage certificate is faster and convenient since the search can be done anytime and anywhere that has Internet connection. The residents of Massachusetts can even request for a free public marriage records through some websites that offer their service for free. They do this to allow their users to know what it's like to use their system before they even decide to pay for it.
