The arrest records in California, as a whole, contain information about the crimes that an individual has committed. One would know where and when the individual has been charged of the crime. Details about the person's arrest such as the date and the place are indicated on the record. The notes of the officer who initiated the arrest are also detailed on the record. One would also know whether the arrested individual has been charged and sentenced for the crimes files against him/her. All of this information is kept private until the case has been closed or resolved.

There are also disadvantages about making the document open to the public. Those who have previous records are having difficulties in landing a good job because employers prefer to hire people with no records. Employers would avoid hiring those who had criminal history to avoid problems in the workplace. It has been said that most of the crimes that we know of are done by people who have criminal history. This may not be good for those who changed and wished to live a new life. But, there is still a way to have a clean record and that is to expunge it. Expunging one's criminal history is to seal it but this is a lengthy process. This allows individual to claim that they have ever been arrested or reported for a crime before which can help them find a decent job.

The State Police Department is where the arrest records of California can be obtained. In San Diego, it can be requested at the court office of the city.
