Wedding dress or gown refers to the type of clothing that is worn by brides during a wedding ceremony. The culture and religion of the bride and the bridegroom usually determine several aspects of the dress such as the style, color, and ceremonial importance. Brides usually conduct enormous research and put in a lot effort to find the best gown that will make the event memorable. Chicago wedding dresses are very affordable, memorable, and can be customized to suit various personal preferences.

During the nineteenth century, Queen Victoria made white dresses very popular in western cultures and they are still popular to this day. On the other hand, the red color is preferred more in Eastern cultures because it is taken to mean auspiciousness. In the Middle Ages, weddings were taken to be more political than they were affectionate. One usually signified the union of two businesses, families, or countries, especially among the nobility.

Brides represented themselves, their families, and the political status of their families, which made it important that they look favorable to people in attendance. There was a great preference for rich color shades and exclusive fabrics. Usually how costly the dress was a symbol for family wealth and social standing of brides.

The white color in the western culture became popular in 1840 when Queen Victoria wore a white gown that incorporated some laces she valued. Many photos from the wedding were posted and many people got to see them. Since then, every bride started to opt for white gowns in accordance to the choice of their Queen. The fashion moved fast within the western countries and became a tradition.

Today, sleeveless or strapless dresses are the most common gowns on the market. Producers favor this trend because of two main reasons. The first one is because such gowns are easier to produce and the skill level involved is not very high. Secondly, altering them to fit the body better is much easier. However, long sleeved gowns based on old Victorian designs are regaining popularity these days.

Professionals whose specialize in designing and making gowns are referred to as wedding dress designers. Companies employ them, while others choose to be self-employed. Production of gowns usually happens in masses or individually for specific clients. The wealthy and celebrities usually settle for customized products as a show of status or personal preference.

Usually there are no academic courses specifically for making gowns. Designers can be trained associate or bachelor degree in fashion design. Some of the classes people learn when taking fashion design programs include sales skills, marketing, bridal design, and sewing techniques among many others. Students have a chance to get involved in internships and competitions. Annual fashion shows are also available in the US.

Certain skills are required in order to become an expert in bridal gowns. One must have some ability in drawing and sewing. It is also important to possess some knowledge in computer aided design software and graphic design software for creation of gown patterns before they are produced. Communication skills are important for communicating and interacting with customers.
