It is a very challenging and often daunting task to spread the word of God. The Bible, which is the written and true word of God is the best-selling book in all of the world. Even though a lot of people have heard of the Bible and read some portion of it, they often have misunderstandings about what it means. This makes it vital for defenders of the Gospel to know what their purpose truly is.
To start, the Gospel is not what most people believe it to be. When translated properly, the Gospel means the good news. Actually, an accurate translation is nearly too good to be true news. When people know this, they will be less likely to believe the negative connotations of this important message and the Holy Spirit that has delivered it.
This news is the story of Jesus Christ. More than who he is, it is about what he came to the earth to do, and how he accomplished it. People often punish themselves when they feel guilty or when their consciences are heavy due to sin. They are also subject to punishment from God and accusations from the devil. Dying in sin can lead to an eternity in hell.
But, given that Christ has already paid the ultimate penalty for all sin, there is nothing that people need to do apart from believe in him and his sacrifice in order to escape death. For the sacrifice that Christ made, people also have the benefit of eternal life. All they must do is confess their sins to Christ and believe that he is the risen son of God.
When you set about the process of defending the Gospel, however, you cannot make the egregious error of conceding about sin. Because this is know as the late hour and given that Christ is coming soon, this is not good diplomacy but is instead, a grave mistake. Diplomats of God have to tell the truth about sin. Even though God is quick to forgive those who believe in Christ, this does not translate as toleration of willful sinning.
People have to walk a fine line between acknowledging the law and representing Jesus. Believing in Christ means that you are already forgiven for your sins. Loving Christ, however, and building a relationship with him is what inspires people to work towards lifestyles that are righteous and free of sin.
Defenders have to remember the fact that no one stands righteous before God. Only Jesus lived his entire life without sinning. You cannot be in the habit of judging others in order to be an effective representative of God in this respect. You should instead, convince the world that Christ loves all of mankind and this is why he chose to sacrifice himself.
When people understand the true and unlimited love that is given freely by both Jesus and God, they are more likely to make a commitment to Christ then not. Thus, rather than telling people how they are doomed to hell on the basis of their sinful lifestyles, Christians should tell others how much God loves them. Moreover, they should do this with the utmost humility and with the understanding that relationship-building with Christ is what will ultimately eliminate the desire for sin.
