Since human beings have descended from the Neanderthals that had come before humans, they exhibited behaviors and actions that are seen in apes as well. The first ever civilization that was able to create jewelry were the ancient Egyptians. They were the first the culture that was able to produced and craft the materials that the ancient people had during that time. Many ancient civilizations marveled at the vast amounts of treasures that the ancient Egyptians had in their possession.

It was the ancient Egyptians that started the trend that is still seen today. During the time of ancient Egypt, the gold and treasures that one would have symbolized that this person was a great one. It symbolized the status and power that one held in society. It became a symbol of religious importance of them as well, as most of royalty is buried with it.

The middle age has been riddled with this. For than on, various countries have funded expeditions and explorers to find new land and new treasures. This resulted in new continents being discovered and being colonized as well. The reason that this was done was to collect for wealth and various different treasures that these places hold.

The abundance of gold is what led to the discovery of other parts of the world. Led by their greed and lust for power, the many kingdoms that were powerful during the middle ages commissioned explorers to find various new lands in order to own them. Once it was obvious that there were natives, the settlers drove natives away from the land and took the gold with them.
