Enjoy A Relaxed Lifestyle In Delray Beach Florida

By Jony Mozen

If the rat race is becoming too much for you, you may want to pack it all in and move to a town where relaxing is the name of the game. If that town has the perfect climate, it's even better reason to relocate. Delray Beach Florida is just such a place if you want to enjoy life by the ocean.

The town is a seaside community that is located in Palm Beach County on the Florida peninsula. It's just north of Boca Raton on a stretch known as the Treasure Coast. Miami is about 50 miles, less than an hour's drive, to the south.

The climate is classified as tropical rainforest, with plenty of rainfall throughout the year. If you want to live in warmer climes, this is the perfect place to do so since even in winter, temperatures are an average minimum of 57 degrees and a maximum of 75, great for being outside. In the height of summer it can become very hot, with the mercury rising to 90 degrees or so.

It was the construction of a house of refuge for sailors shipwrecked along the coast that permanent settlement began in the area. This happened in 1876 and within a decade, there was also a vibrant African-American farming community that lived here. When pineapple farming became less lucrative, the local economy received a boost in the 1920s when the tourism industry moved in and began constructing hotels.

The name Delray Beach tells you all about why you'd want to live here. There are miles and miles of stunning beaches where you can make the most of the glorious weather. If you want to do more than just sunbathing, you can go for long walks along the shore or take a dip in the warm water of the Atlantic. A little offshore there is an old shipwreck that has become home to corals and other forms of marine life. It's shallow enough to explore through snorkeling but you can also go scuba diving here.

Apart from water sports, the town is a haven for anyone looking for an active lifestyle. It's one of the best locations in the United States for tennis lovers, with excellent facilities that host an important championship on the ATP tour. Golf is a popular pastime too. If you prefer other activities, you'll find great shopping at the many ocean-side boutiques and art galleries. Food lovers should try and be here around March for Savor the Avenue, when five city blocks become a very, very long dinner table. The local garlic festival is another event not to be missed.

If you're interested in history, you'll find some wonderful historical sites and buildings like the Colony Hotel, dating from 1926. The elementary school from 1913 and the high school from 1925 now form part of an arts and culture precinct known as Old School Square, with an art museum and a theater. The Morikami Museum and Japanese Gardens are dedicated to art and culture from Japan.

A visit to the beach-side town will be enough to convince you that this is a great place to live. Luckily you'll find plenty of homes in Delray Beach Florida, from large properties to condos. It shouldn't be too hard to find one that suits your budget but the town also has several rental properties available.
