How Growing In Faith Can Be Different For Everyone

By Catherine Wagner

At some point in life, everyone has encountered feelings of anguish and misery for the situation they may be in. It is not rare to encounter these emotions, but it is more challenging to escape these feelings. Many people suggest growing in faith as the best technique to clear out these unpleasant feelings.

Obviously, this is an advice that is easier said than done. Nurturing faith may come easy for others, while some may find it impossible. Faith does not have to be a belief in any religious being. Even people who do not pray can lose faith. Faith in this context can simply mean hopefulness and optimism in life.

Living life feeling insignificant might be because you have lost your purpose or are still on the verge of finding it. Without purpose, it could be challenging to justify moving on. Purpose is critical because it gives us the courage to face trials and tribulations. An inspiration may be a friend, partner, family member, or a personal goal. Basically, finding meaning is the best approach to regaining faith.

It can be intimidating when some people seem like they have already got their whole lives figured out. Others even find their purpose as a child in the shape of a dream. Usually, this ambition takes a different shape as the person matures. Someone who originally wanted to become a dancer might eventually change his mind and conclude that he would rather be a lawyer. Lucky ones get to stick to one single dream for their entire lives, but how about others who have not had the chance to set their ambitions straight?

Although these accomplished young adults can seem intimidating, never forget that people achieve things in life at varying turns. Social constructs may tell you when you should obtain a degree, get a job, or build a family. Nevertheless, these constructs do not take into account whatever unique circumstances you may be dealt with so these should not dictate the speed at which you make major decisions in life.

The first step to in finding meaning is to forget what society expects from you. Ask questions. In fact, ask a lot of questions. Ask yourself what you would be doing if you were unafraid or if you had all the resources you needed to do it. What would you be doing if life simply went your way?

To find answers, get away from your comfort zone. Taste new food, find a new hobby, and meet people. With new experiences, you can also learn new things about yourself. Perhaps you are an excellent cook, an exceptional photographer, or a wonderful painter. You would never know these things if you never try some of them out. You might even join a running club. Meet veterans in their chosen field of expertise and ask them questions about the choices they have made and what things they would change if they could go back and undo some things. Learn from them and see what things you can do the same. Rid yourself of all societal pressures in order to realize your goals. Understand that everyone walks a different journey. An excellent way to reclaim your motivation is to learn from people. You would be amazed of the experiences they have to share.

Most importantly, be kind to people. You may not be able to make a difference in your own life, but you can make a difference for other people. That alone should be enough to fill you with a sense of purpose and appreciation for the things you have and the life you get to live.
