The Christian faith consists of numerous congregations, sects, splinter movements and churches that all believe that they are the ones following the true faith. It is sad to see that churches often attack each other, even in public. In recent history several sects have become the target of severe criticism and history have shown that in some cases such criticism were valid. Currently, many people are doing their utmost to see the HOPCC exposed.
The efforts to discredit the House of Prayer Christian Church include the use of social media such as Twitter and Facebook where there are accounts dedicated to the exposure of the church. There are also many websites dedicated to this purpose. Critics maintain that the church is dangerous and that they harm their members in many different ways. Many critics were one time members of the church.
One of the main criticisms is that the church apparently expects its members to donate all their worldly goods. Some critics allege that they were required to donate even their homes to the church and one witness say that their home was allocated to another member of the church. In some cases members were even required to quit their jobs and work for the church full time.
Another major theme in the criticisms against the House of Prayer is that they go to great lengths to recruit young people, only to indoctrinate them and alienate them from their loved ones and families. Many family members of such young members say that their children refuse any contact with them and they accuse the church of indoctrinating the young members to accept the church as their only family.
Relentless critics have tried to convince the authorities to launch investigations into the House of Prayer Christian Church. Not much has been done thus far, however. The authorities have made it clear that they cannot and will not investigate a church unless there is reasonable proof that a crime or crimes have been committed. The voluntary donation of money and assets is not a crime.
The official website of the church states clearly that everybody connected to their seminary are required to reject all affairs related to the secular world. Instead, they are required to direct all their efforts into spiritual growth, learning and the furthering of the church goals. Critics say that this statement clearly show that those members are not allowed to own anything.
The church itself does not seem to react to the criticisms levelled against it. They have published a number of extremely positive testimonials on their website but, once again, critics ridicule these testimonies, saying that members are indoctrinated and cowed into providing their testimonies. The church itself maintains that they simply wish their members to pray and to attend as many services as is possible.
There are also those that defend the church. Many independent observers point out that much of the criticism levelled against the church smack of bitterness and even hate. Some critics use extremely strong language and observers point out that some attacks are both vitriolic and very close to defamation.
