Recent Trends In Theology Articles

By Michelle Phillips

When it comes to religion and spirituality, there are a number of different schools of thought. For example, the number of different Christian denominations and belief systems alone show how differently people think about God. In some cases, Theology articles can answer questions about religious ideologies. Whereas, in others, the publications can create more questions than answers.

The Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission host a number of articles on the organizational website. Topics can range from issues such as the LGBTQ+ community connection to Christian churches, political theology and theories to current events and trends. In addition, the separation of church and state remains an ongoing issue often ripe for discussion.

In other cases, these articles can discuss the different names for God such as Creator, a higher power, the Great Mystery, Great Spirit and Universe to name a few. Whereas, in Christian churches, God is seen as an aspect of the Holy Trinity. While distinct and equal, the Holy Trinity consist of God the Father, Jesus, the Son of God and Holy Ghost or Spirit, the latter terminology often dependent on denomination.

In most cases, this is believed to be due to the birth, death and resurrection of Christ whom is seen as the son of God, thus making God a father figure in the new testament gospels. Whereas, prior to that time God was seen as a Supreme being. While after the birth of Jesus, the term God, the Father often refers to the Father of Christ. While this is the case, there are a number of other names for God in various religions and religious texts.

Some current trends in recent articles on the topic have included LGBTQ Christians and churches. In some cases, the conversation can benefit these individuals, and in others be almost as discriminatory as those whom use the Bible to create bigotry, hatred, homophobia and racism in the world. As a result, when reading articles of this nature, it can often good to maintain an open and questioning mind.

As a result of this thinking, there are many individuals within the LGBTQ+ community whom have not been able to find a church home. For, there are far more conservative evangelical congregations than more liberal ones in most areas. While this is the case, more and more churches are starting to share the belief that love is granted to all God's children regardless of economic status, gender, race, sexual orientation and other factors.

One of the best articles of this nature is that of The Life and Doctrine Connection: It's Complicated written by Derek Rishmawy, April 8th, 2016. The article covers the topic of Paul's injunction for Timothy in which Timothy is asked to keep a close watch on his life and doctrine. For, in doing so, it shows the importance of the ministry as an aspect of life.

Ultimately, articles of this nature have the ability to inform, inspire and enlighten readers. Whereas, depending on the author, information and tone, the opposite can also be true. As such, whether reading or writing this type content, it is often best to do so in a suggestive manner with an open mind. For, regardless of belief, God is, always has been and always will be a great mystery.
